Donut Day

June 6th is National Donut Day!

In honor of this wonderful day I made some homemade oven baked donuts. They turned out great, tasted good and I had fun experimenting with glazes and toppings. So I thought I would share the recipe with you!

Oven Baked Donuts

1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3 cups flour
4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup milk
Blend butter with sugar. Add the eggs and mix well. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add to the butter and sugar mixture. Blend in the milk and mix together thoroughly. Fill greased donut tins* 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 17 minutes, or until donuts are golden.
*If you don't have a donut tin you can use a muffin tin instead.

Here are some different sweet toppings to cover them with:
- While donuts are still warm, roll them in melted butter; then in cinnamon sugar
- Roll in powdered sugar
- Make a simple glaze of 1 cup powdered sugar, 2-4 teaspoons milk and ½ teaspoon of flavored extract; try vanilla, almond, orange, maple or hazelnut
- Frost them with your favorite chocolate frosting and dust with colorful sprinkles
